Srimat Swami Rakanandaji Maharaj of Ramakrishna Math Nagpur started visiting Yavatmal for Jivan Vikas Magazine Subscribers. He used to go door to door for making Subscribers on cycle. Then MP Sri Janraoji Jawade, Sri Ramesh Sule of Indian Post, District Librarian Sri Kakasaheb Deshpande, Sri Nathalal Chandarana of Pandharkawada Village, Lawyer Sri Barve, Sri Tukaramji Wankhede, Sri Jainarayanji Ahir, a teacher from Wani Sri Gundawar and many others came in contact with Swami Rakananda. In this way these people started visiting Ramakrishna Math Nagpur. Srimat Swami Bhaskareshwaranandaji Maharaj, then Adhyaksha of Ramakrishna Math Nagpur inspired these people and they became the devotee of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda. During the period 1958 to 1960 all these people received an initiation.
Sri Jainarayanji Ahir brought the cassette of Ramakrishna Aaratrikam and started playing in the evening since 1958. Daily 8-9 people used to gather for Evening Aarti at the house Sri Pimpalkar near the Church. Swamis Bhaskareshwaranandaji, Rakanandaji Maharaj inspired these devotees of Yavatmal to acquire the land to start an Ashram.
Devotees formed the Charitable Trust named “Sri Ramakrishna Ashram Yavatmal” in 1959 and registered it. MP Sri Janraoji Jawade became the first president of Sri Ramakrishna Ashram Yavatmal. Sri Vasantraoji Naik was Revenue Minister in Maharashtra and he belonged to Yavatmal area. He knew about Ramakrishna Math when he was student studying at Nagpur. Ashram applied for the government land and Sri Naik granted more than 17 acre land to the Ashram in Umarsara village now a part of Yavatmal City. It was much more than expectations. It was on 99 years lease on Rs.1 per year.
